Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju

when the final cut to the ending song i don't think i've yelled so loud at a TV show before.
"isn't this the final episode?" i yelled through tears. "you cannot end it there"
i rushed over to Myanimelist and double checked the episode count and a saw it.
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju 2.
no set date but it exists...

Anyways back to this show.

Rakugo is a stage play performed by one person doing all the parts, this story is told through flashbacks of one very prominent Rakugo performer after he takes on his first apprentice. The first episode is double the length of a normal episode... the rest are 23 minutes long but i wish every episode was longer.
every week i never wanted the episode to end.
seeing the young actors go from their nervous first performance to gaining more confidence... to watching their peers and feeling jealous of their talent without realizing they are getting the jealousy of others... it was just a joy to watch.

Between this and erased this season was an absolute joy...
also tears.... lots and lots of tears.

I recommend this whole heartily... or at least i want to.

It is 'slice of life'.. it is 'historical drama' and it's all about a type of stageplay that doesn't exist in north america. I know it wont appeal to everyone.
however give the first episode a try, if you like what you see you'll probably end up loving the entire show.

alright couple of episode of Osomatsu-san and haikyuu left and then i'm pretty much done with winter 2016... onto the next season (a ton of shows aired today so should be fun writing all those first impressions)
