by completed i mean i've played every song.. yeah it's cheating but you don't really ever complete Rhythm games... especially not ones like p.diva.
First some things to note.
This is an import game that i bought at a convention for the PSP.... you can get import games cause PSP games do not have a region lock.
This game focuses on Vocaloid which, from what i understand but i could be wrong, is a program that was developed to simulate singing. There are many characters and i swear every time i look away for a month or two another 5 pop up.. granted they tend to be from a range of companies but still...
This is the third game for the psp but not the third game of the series... it's more an expansion on two.... which i don't own... i do own 1 though so i will be comparing the two.
and finally as i mentioned before it's a rhythm game which sued to only use the 4 main buttons but now uses both sides of the psp.
hm.... i think going by category would work well.
Graphics
Now it's a game that's played mostly for the song so what is going on in the background doesn't really matter however the game does give you the option to just watch the music videos without playing the game and you can tell that a lot of work went into some of these PVs. otherwise graphics are nice but not really pushing the system.
Song Selection
It has time limit, just be friends, disappearance and that freaky one with the girl in the Kimono.... not to mention a few from P.diva 1 that i really like.... so yeah overall i like the song selection here.... would have liked to see worlds end dance hall or matryoshika but hey.... can't get too picky.
there are too many slower songs for my taste but i know the game needs a balance so that's just a personal thing.
Unlockables
From outfits to items to bedroom sets to accessories there is a lot to unlock... in fact you only get 4 songs to start off.... once you pass one you get another until the list is full.... and until you beat everything on normal your can't play hard and same thing for hard to extreme so yeah lots to do an collect however
in p.diva 1 you had to hit a certain criteria for getting certain costumes.... but that was it.... in this the criteria is pretty easy BUT you have to then go into the in game shop with points you've amassed from playing and buy the outfit you earned.... not sure which i like better... maybe a mix of both?
Difficulty
yeah this one is way harder then p.diva 1... in p.diva 2 they added a step that involves hitting the arrow and face keys at the same time.... it took me a while to get used to it but it's pretty second nature now.... except when they throw a bunch at me.... it also added hold buttons which adds a bit of a challenge. they also added extreme so yeah... just all around more difficult but also more fun.... just.... you have to get a really good mark to even pass the song (i think it's over 80%) and sometimes... it's just tricky.... even if you've done the song really well it doesn't screw around.
Ease of play.
The menu, the song titles (most of them) hell even the costumes all share 1 thing in common... it's all in japanese... this means it's tricky to navigate HOWEVER i managed without looking at any translations so it's not too hard.... hardest part is switching your brain to understanding circle is accept and X is cancel.... which i know verbal makes sense but considering north America has it reversed.... it messes with your head.... but still as logn as you can get to the song list your fine so in that regard really easy to pick up and play
overall?
I like it.... it's fun and addictive and a good way to pass time... just need to get better at extreme songs.... cause yeah they are just a bit too hard while hard is a bit too easy....
BUT i warn you.... the game isn't cheap.... 70+shipping (everything in japan is insanely expensive but that's a talk for another time) so yeah either look for a place that sells import games (some places are even willing to order them for you to save the cost of shipping) or wait till p.diva 3 comes out and this one will drop in price.
A place where I will post reviews, personal art and maybe even some videos. please feel free to suggest things to read/watch/play or draw

Completed: Ys vs Sora no Kiseki: Alternative saga
now i'm using the term completed very loosely here.... because it's a fighting game and not really something you can beat.... but i want to talk about it so it counts.
Ys vs Legend of Heroes (not a direct translation but it gets the point across) is a Falcom fighting game in the style of Super smash brothers and powerstone.
There is a story mode, an arcade mode, a free mode, a shop and an area where you can see all your collectables.
so i'll talk about each section briefly.
Story mode
if you didn't gather from the title this is an import game, other then the menu and a few other spaces it's all in Japanese.... that makes story mode difficult... luckily it's all voiced so i was able to get the gist of the story.
So there's something going around controlling all your friends and you have to beat some sense into them... eventually you come across the information that the big bad can be defeated by the "dragon slayer" so then you go searching for that... still kicking the ass of everyone you come across eventually you find the blade but on no it breaks... but through the power of glowing light you find out that whomever your playing is the REAL dragon slayer.... as you proceed to slay a dragon.... yay you win, learn new summon unlock new character rinse and repeat but on a higher level or with a different character.
so essentially the plot is: fight people till you get to final boss.... yay
i've only played three of the stories so far and there only seems to be a slight difference.
When played as Adol you are prompted with an option of two dialogues.... i can't read japanese so unless i recognized the characters i always picked the top one...
Estelle had a few choices but i mean only a few...
Gies has not had any, probably because unlike Estelle and Adol he's not really the main character of his series.
also i should note (though this probably changes when you beat all their stories) there are only 5 characters to choose from, once you beat their story once you can try again but starting at level 41 instead of level 1....
oh.... i haven't mentioned this yet.... this is a fighting game where you level up.... and equip yourself.... even if you lose the match you get a little bit of experience and money... and yes.... theres money but i'll talk about that more when we get to the shop.
Arcade mode
You pick any of the available characters and fight for as long as you can.... there may be an end to this, i don't know cause no matter how hard i try i can't get past level 10.... cause it's 2 against one : (
still this is the perfect way to grind your character or earn some cash if they aren't high enough level for the story mode... unfortunately computer uses characters with the items you have equipped as well as raisign there level to meet yours.... so yeah it's not an easy mode but very fun.
Free Mode
this you can pick who you fight, you can even use alternative colouring or team battles.
i believe you find network mode in this vein too where you can fight against others with the game.... unfortunately being an import game i have not tried out network mode yet... i do know someone else who owns the game but i haven't seen him yet so yeah...
Shop
after a fight you are awarded money which you can use in the shop... here you can upgrade you characters weapon, buy them accessories to make them more powerful or even buy more skills for them....
The shop had levels and the more you buy the more things you get as a reward, soon enough you'll be able to buy music for the game, stills that are shown as loading screens, themes for your psp or videos that are intros of pretty much every Falcom game. Most of these things i believe can be unlocked through game play but if your impatient and want to listen to Innocent Primeval Breaker now then just buy it.... but i tend to spend most of the money on upgrading characters so they do a stupid amount of damage early on in story mode.
Collectables
This is where you see everything you got.... either from playing the game or buying it.... you can take the anime stills an use them as a background, the themes can be applied to your psp here and you can listen to a TON of music of watch some of those videos.... i think all games need something like this cause this bonus stuff really adds to playability.... and i've only ever seen these kinds of collectable areas on my other import psp game Project Diva and Ys 3 Oath in Felghana... another Falcom game...
So how does the fighting work?
it's pretty easy to pick up, it's for the psp so the buttons are in a nice layout.
Circle attacks
X dodges or makes you recover in midair
Triangle jumps
Square blocks.
If you hold R and hit any of those buttons it'll preform the special move programmed to it but this use SP so you can't just spam these moves.
you can move with the analogue stick or directional pad.
L and R together brings in your support character who will buff you for a short time.
if your all charged up for a super special attack then you have to hit L and that's pretty much it.
there's a hit point system so when your life hits 0 you are out.... you can also be poisoned, burned, froze, paralyzed, turned to stone and many other status ailments.
so yeah despite the language barrier it's really easy to play.. i wish i could read what some of the accessories do but i figure more of them wont hurt me if i equip it.
if you own a PSP and like (or have even heard of) Falcom games then you should pick this up... due to the fact it has sooo much info about their Japan only games it'll probably never be translated. Luckily PSP doesn't have region coding issues so anyone outside of Japan can play...
alright i'm going to go back to playing now cause it's so much fun

Completed: Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC
Originally pubished January 17, 2012 on tumblr
FC stands for first chapter… anyways… yet another Falcom game…
Before getting into anything i would just like to mention that the Legend of heroes series has a mighty screwed up release history in north america.
I have only played Legend of heroes 4: a tear of vermillion before this… a game i only picked up because i had played the Ys games and enjoyed them… when i finished that game i did a little research cause i hadn’t heard of LOH1-3 or 5+ because at the end it said it was part two of a trilogy.
from what i could gather the two first LOH games are connected, then the next three are there own trilogy but can technically played in ‘any’ order since from what i could gather they all take place on different continents that can’t meet each other due to weather. it’s called the Gagharv Trilogy… would love to play the other games…. but as far as i can find out… that's not gunna happen any time soon… these games are rare and from what i understand i was lucky to get 4 for such a low price…. plus they are old now… and apparently they screwed up the order in which they were released here…. but that's fine
next is this series and here's where my brain starts to implode
trails in the sky is a trilogy…. with 4 and possibly even 5 games.
trails in the sky is spread out over 3 games making it it’s own trilogy…. game 4 is a sequel sat in the same world, possible with same characters or allusions to them but seems to be counted as part of the trails in the sky (sora no kiseki) trilogy…
and the series continues… and my head continues to feel nothing but pain… anyways onto the actual review

We start off the game in the past, little Estelle is waiting for her father to come home from work, seems like she’s been home alone for a few days now.
Soon enough he bursts through the door carrying something in a blanket, a boy about the same age as estelle… about 11. The boy is injured but fighting with the girls father “you don’t know what your getting into!” he complained but the man doesn’t seem to care and introduces his daughter.
when he tries to argue with her she jumps on his bed in hopes to scare him into shutting up and resting.
now actually fearing for his life he shuts up and eventually rests… fast forward 5 years.
they have grown up together as brother and sister (since her father adopted him) and now have finally completed their training to be Bracers. Hired Mercenaries who help the people… be it fetch quests or eliminating monsters that are causing a problem.
right around this time their father who is a fairly well known bracer himself gets called away…. unfortunately he happens to be on a airship that gets kidnapped by bandits, Estelle and Joshua (the boy) being worried for their father work to help find him and that starts there long and complicated journey.
along the way they work with one of the people who trained them… a sadist named Sherazade.
They also meet other bracers, each with different levels of crazy personalities… a wandering bard who fights with a gun and hits on anything pretty…. he doesn’t care about gender at all. the granddaughter of the man who essentially created the technology they all use to have magic and such. a student a the royal academy who just wants to help the local orphanage… as well as a man who always seems to get into trouble and a reporter who always wants the biggest scoop.
Now what did i think? my biggest complaint about 4 was it was predictable…. this one isn’t as predictable as there are some things i didn’t see coming… but certain characters i saw and went “ah…. you’re evil” one because he was blond (i’m sorry but in games and anime silver hair always = bad guy or good guy being tricked to be bad) and the other because he looked too nice… (if it’s too good to be true it probably is and all that) so in that department i was fairly pleased.
characters were interesting and fairly funny, after having one character reveal who they really are thinking back to certain parts in the game the reactions they give make more sense and actually make me sympathize with them more.
the ending was really good, really glad that they are bringing over the sequel cause i would be annoyed if they left where they did (and i have been told that SC starts the very next day from FC)
The music isn’t as good as other falcom games… but there are some great pieces…. specifically the opening song (trails in the sky) a song near the end of the game (Hollow light of the Sealed Land) the end credit song (the Whereabouts of Light) and the everything is peaceful now song (Dancing with the Wind)… but that's only 4 stand out songs that i would listen to out of context on a cd with 33 other songs (yeah thank you falcom for putting cds with your games…. that makes me happy) but yeah…. ys 7 and 3 almost every song is pure gold so…. didn’t quite measure up in my mind.
game play is an improvement on LOH4… feels way less stiff but oh my god so many monsters self destruct… that’s annoying.
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the sky FC shouldn’t be too hard to find but if you buy it i suggest getting the special edition… for 10 extra bucks you get a CD, a double sided poster and a Bracer Pin… not to mention this really fun game…
it is a long game…. i didn’t beat the prologue till about 8 hours in…. so thats a warning.
Legend of heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter has been licensed and is in development…. but apparently it’s even bigger then FC so it may be a while yet.
Final note? To the person who made dialogue for every single chest you look in that’s empty….. Bravo, i had so many laughs thanks to that…. i didn’t check every chest twice but i really should have.
Also new game plus FTW…
good game… go check it out

Completed: Ys Seven
Originally published November 19, 2011on tumblr
when i should have been writing an essay, doing a triptych, planning my wood carving, drawing a million thumbnails, taking some pictures and working on my web design…. yay for procrastination?
Anyways…. to the review

First though a quick explanation for why i jump from 3 to 7…. essentially ys 4 and 5 have yet to make it to north America, they are scheduled for release on the PSVita but as of this moment i can’t play them. ys 6 was released on ps2 and psp but i haven’t been able to find it yet…. apparently the psp port is really bad so that makes it even trickier to find.
So, shortly after being ys 3 my friend asked if i had played any other Falcom games… i mentioned that i hadn’t played 6, 7 or tales of heroes: tears in the sky because i couldn’t find them and my school load was starting to pile…
being the good friend he was…. he told me that they had the special edition at an Electronic Boutique near my school… i said i’d keep it in mind but probably wouldn’t get it for a while….
3 days later i get it…. cause i have no will power.
but it did come with some cool stuff, a cloth map, a soundtrack and an artbook with pictures from ys 1,2,3 and 7.

so once again we are with our young adventurer Adol Christian and his pal Dogi. They come to a land known as Altaigo which they have been told has been having issues with monsters.
of course…. it’s so much more then that.
shortly after coming to town and being arrested since the guard things your a spy from a formally warring neighbor…. you get called before the king…
ok thats an odd turn of events….
he wants to check out a recently discovered ancient shrine… none of his guards found anything but maybe they just weren’t looking hard enough.
so you go…. and Adol starts to feel a strange presence. the alter begins to glow and Adol is given some odd new powers and starts being called the dragon warrior.
the game even starts to make fun of this because Adol has been so many different legends chosen one…. i mean this is the 7th game in the series and i think all but one star him.
anyways you soo find out there are 4 more shrines and unless you go and get the power from each the world will be dooooooooooooomed…. or something…. no one seems to know much but they all agree that adol should go around and continue being the dragon warrior.
you eventually find out that monsters aren’t the only bad things going around… a nasty plague thast turning people to stone it hitting people randomly… so i guess being the dragon warrior will help that too?
after visiting all the shrines you find out you need to visit them all again? see apparently behind the alters is a hidden dimensions where the dragons sleep and we need to go wake them up…
heading into spoiler territory…. this is your warning…. i will avoid giving names just incase.
so after you wake them up, fight them and get their stones you head down into the well of souls to kill the one causing all this great destruction. To be fair…. their argument is that they will return the balance by cleaning the slate and starting new… it’s not for the entire world…. just this continent….
but still… killing everyone kinda sucks so you fight what essentially is a god and win and destroy this tradition.
all is good and happy…. well…. except a few character who don’t make it… but who cares about them right?
and so now that your role is complete you decide to go to new lands for new adventures…. hurray!
spoilers should probably end here…. for now.
Gameplay wise this is very different from all the other Ys games i have played. you actually get a party of three who have semi intelligent AI… when they aren’t running around in circles…. each party member has either slashing type weapons which are good against soft enemies but useless against armored…. strike type weapons which are the opposite of slash or pierce type weapons which are good against flying and not much else.
unlike ys 3 you have not only potions you can hold…. but revival items which was a welcome edition even if it made the game easier. a lot easier. ys 3 made me bump down the difficulty for bosses quite a few times…. never did that for 7… in fact only 2 game over screens and one of those i tried to fight an optional boss when i was way too weak.
this game also adds quests with various rewards and a synthesis system…. which is good and bad
see in y’s 1-3… there were only 6-7 pieces in each set…. what i mean is only 6 armor, 6 swords, 6 shields and 6 accessories for the entire game…. you never bought the items (cept a select few in some games) and the ultimate items were always found in the last dungeon) this game the Ultimate items ALL need to be sythed….. for 7 characters…. if you wanna have an easy time of the final boss…. which i did.
this meants a lot of grinding and harvesting at the end of the game which was fine other then it broke the flow a bit.
there are 9 playable characters but 2 of those replace other characters… my fav was Geis as he had great range, speed and his ability was to boost the amount of exp you gained… apparently he’s in 6 so thats something to look forward to.
this is the longest ys game i’ve played so far which was nice but i wished that instead of just adding bigger monsters to the world map they would have also made the world map monsters stronger like they did in ys 3…. but heres the kicker…. apparently the psp releases have been a little backwards…. this one came out before 3… which came out before 1 and 2…. Falcom you seem to have some serious issues with releasing your games over here…. but your games are fun so keep it up.
Also, as standard to the series the music is amazing. especially near the end where it nearly gets heartbreakingly beautiful… i will admit i did tear up.
so yeah…. if you like Action RPGs/shootemups (the bosses get very shmupy the further in you go to the game) this is perfect for you…. just be warned…. it’s not easy. but seriously give it a shot… not enough people have heard of this series.

but it did come with some cool stuff, a cloth map, a soundtrack and an artbook with pictures from ys 1,2,3 and 7.

so once again we are with our young adventurer Adol Christian and his pal Dogi.

Completed: Y’s III: The Oath in Felghana
Originally published October 30, 2011
So just this past Tuesday i was at EB games so my brother could buy the latest FPS Battlefield 3… i hadn’t had the time to look for games to play in awhile so i looked around and spotted a game called Y’s: the oath of Felghana on the psp… i had earlier this year beaten the DS port for Y’s 1 and 2… the story was good and even though i am terrible at Action RPGs i decided to give it a shot…. because honestly the game gets a little easier the closer you are to the end…. or at least the first two did.

So yeah first thing first… the psp made a better port of these games… hands down… i love the DS but book 1 and 2 were so glitchy it was almost unplayable.
You start off the game by picking your difficulty, very easy through to nightmare… i go for normal cause i have too much pride to play on easy but not enough skill to play any harder.
boy were there times i wished i had just picked easy. This game… just like the other two… are freaking hard as hell. This game gets rid of the 0 recovery time glitch a little as every hit knocks you back… but if you get cornered you are pretty screwed… at least in this game you don’t take damage by simply touching the enemies.
Then you meet the main character Adol Christin, a young boy of 19 with fiery red hair. Despite his young age he has already been on two large adventures and saved the world a few times. You are traveling with your friend Dogi, your friend and battle companion… well… he’s you companion but you never fight as him or ever with him… this game is completely devoid of a party system… it’s just you the entire time.
Anyways you make it to the peaceful island of Felghana only to find it overrun with monsters, you save a young girl named Elena who happens to be Dogi’s childhood friend… of course not everything is the same as it was 8 years ago when dogi left. Elena’s brother chester has vanished and a nearby count is trying to take over the island… of course as an adventurer you decide to figure out why all these strange things have happened and the story go on from there.
it starts of simple… saving miners from monsters… to exceedingly complex when your trying to get all these mythical statues that hold back a dark god before the white knight beats you to it.
as far as fantasy plots go… it’s nothing that hasn’t been seen before…. get muggufin(s) have it stolen by person your trying to keep it from… find out more about characters as shocking twists occur… and eventually destroy the dark god and save world…. for the third time….. in a year… since i think Adol hasn’t had a birthday yet. hell according to the games progression… saving the world happens in exactly 1 day… ok i think were supposed to assume it takes longer then that but you only get night at the start of the game and the end.
but despite the overall plot being the same as every fantasy story ever written it is really well done, the characters are likeable and since there aren’t too many you get to know their individual personalities.
oh and the game is fairly unique… as i mentioned before it’s an action rpg meaning all battles happen real time, no battle screens and you have to physically dodge attacks… but it’s more then JUST an rpg…
It’s also a platformer…. ok not unheard of in an action rpg but still not completely common….
oh and it’s also a bullet hell game at times…. i would call it a shoot em up but you so rarely use the fireball that bullet hell works better. this adds depth and a huge amount of difficulty… if you lose boss fights enough the game pities you and askes if you want to drop the difficulty of the fight… which i did a few times… cause again…. i suck at those kinds of games…. theres a reason i can’t get past the 3rd or 4th stage of touhou… they are too damn hard!
anyways the story is cute, the port is really good… gunna get the port for 6 and 7 soon… 4 and 5 haven’t come out here yet but are supposed to be on ps vita…. which i may or may not get… we’ll see…
so yeah…. if you like rpgs, platformers and bullet hell then you will love this game…
also… the music is amazing… some of the best rpg music ever in my opinion

Completed: Kingdom Hearts Birth by sleep… all of it… kinda
Originally posted August 14, 2011 on tumblr
so i played through this entire damn game working really hard to get the secret ending…. but i missed 1 report cause i didn’t really ever go to the arena
i tried to go after i had beaten the game with that character but the game literally looked at me and said “yeah this is how you get that report… but you beat the game already… so we wont give it to you…. and by the way…. if you want it you have to replay terra’s chapter all over again…. cause i’m cool like this.”
And this my friends is my main gripe with the Kingdom heart series.
The first one i didn’t get the secret ending cause i was way too lazy to do a 100% run… i’m sorry but no… also i didn’t know about it…. it was secret and all…
the second one i knew it was there so i played the game, trying to find out how to get it on my own… only to beat the game and find out that i missed 1 chest as Roxas and i can’t get it and therefor can’t get the secret ending… again not replaying an entire game for one thing i missed… that’s what you tube is for.
so now we have come to birth by sleep… i enjoyed Terra’s story more then the other two… even more then Ventus who i really enjoyed…. i hated playing aqua… she was so weak and really until the bonus chapter that i never got to play she adds NOTHING to the story… just “well… darkness is bad and light is good and there is no middle ground” despite EVERYONE around her trying to show her that there needs to be a balance of dark and light and one cannot be around without the other.
another reason why i don’t feel too bad about being screwed out of the bonus chapter is cause aqua is the only playable character… and i was happy never to need to use her again.
anyways enough bitching about always missing one thing for the secret stuff…
Terra story was great cause it was a bit darker then the other two… the boy seriously needs to learn when he’s being lied to but in the end it worked out in my opinion… out of the three he has the best twist and his story contained soem plot points that i didn’t see coming at all unlike the other two which were fairly predictable.
however his story felt shorter then the other two… maybe because he is way overpowered i got through areas faster but i also feel like his plot points were shorter.
either way it was in the end an ok game… the load times, even after installing the game, were ridiculously long. the plot convoluted as all hell especially considering it’s meshing 3 time lines… 7 if you count mickey, sora, riku and kairi part in the story. and for a square disney crossover…. where are all the final fantasy characters… and no… sora, riku, kairi and all the Characetrs specific to the series DO NOT COUNT. there is only one that i can think of… Zack…. which was great and made me very happy but this is supposed to be a cross over…. maybe because you never really have a disney character partner in this game they decided to no use FF characters…. but still… kinda disappointed…
so yeah… if your a fan of the series go play but you probably have already…. if kingdom hearts never did anything for you this wont change you mind.
*still bitter about the secret ending bullshit even though she’s ranted*

Complete: The Legend of Heroes: a Tear or Vermillion
Originally posted July 10, 2011 on Tumblr
Ok…. this game has one hell of a history lesson attached…. i’ll try to get all the facts straight but honestly… i make no promises.
Released in 2005 by Bandai this was the first “Legend of Heroes” game to hit North American Soil…. but it’s full Japanese title (which is shown at the end of the game) states that not only is it part 4 of the series…. but it’s also part of a trilogy, i think it’s the second game of that trilogy but i’m getting mixed info… so not sure on that one. Originally the game was made in 1996 for a system i know nothing about called the NEC PC-9801… anyways things were made more confusing over here when they released the 3rd game in the series (which they called legend of heroes II even though it’s the first game in that trilogy…but this one takes place as a prequel…. ouch my head…) the next year in North America.
Anyways i knew none of that when i found the game in a place that seems to collect oddities. To be honest i had never heard of the series…. all i knew was that i was nearly done a game made by the same producers “Falcom” and i knew there were more games in the ys series… i thought it could have been one of them but it wasn’t. Still i am glad i picked it up.
First i’ll start with the positive.
The music is really really pretty, epic when needed, sad at the drop of a hat and just overall perfect for the mood. This is a game i look forward to getting the soundtrack to.
The characters are lovable and for the most part feel very real, you feel bad when certain events happen, you laugh with others. Nothing feels too forced and their overall design is very nice even if some of the stills look awkward… no… stay on the positive.
No random encounters. It’s a game where you can see the enemy and if you choose to walk up and touch them only then will the fight start. monsters that wont give good exp or that can be defeated easily tend to run from you while stronger ones come charging. It’s really nice when your just not in the mood to fight to be able to avoid it completely.
For a game with pixel sprites…. it’s violent. I mean some bad guys get knocked off cliffs, a character gets hit against as wall falls… he has left blood on the wall then a pool of blood falls around him… it was just a nice welcome surprise
Finally the ending is good, a bit long but it made me feel like all that work really paid off.
However this game has a lot of very obvious flaws…
The translation and placing of text is atrocious.
ex. When you get a new spell it says. “Avin was Double-Attack Mastered!”
That particular example is the worst one in the entire game HOWEVER you see it every time someone gets any new spell.
also you get a lot of words being cut in odd places or just completely going out of text boxes (happens a lot for inns) nothing too bad but it does take you out of the game.
No auto targeting closest enemies in battles and if a monster your trying to cast a spell on dies your character loses out on the turn. I hate both of these…. if the character can’t attack something cause it’s too far then please just auto go for the nearest monster. same this with spells… just send them to someone else.
Some dungeons make you warp out or they will warp you back when you don’t want it…. i complained about this the other day…. i just feel have a teleporty thingy where the boss used to be and everyone is happy. and don’t make me walk back to the place you just teleported me away from… that’s just mean
You never get to choose your party.
Not even at the end of the game when every possible party character is gathered…. i don’t mind the party i’m given but in the final fight i want a little choice.
no New game plus : ( not really a bad point but it does make me sad.
Set up for sequel but flakes out… unless whats mentioned is what happens in the next game but then we already know how that ends too… hmmmmmmm
Lastly…. it’s predictable…. there were one or two things that caught me off guard (more that it happened sooner then i expected then that i didn’t expect it at all) but overall i knew exactly what was going to happen next beat for beat, line for line…. hell i could even tell what characters were going to say next. The story is good but it climbed to the top of the tropes tree, fell down and hit every branch on the way down.
Granted it did avoid one trope. The main character is a normal person on a mission… not a chosen one… nothing special…. his sister is but he is not… and that was extremely refreshing. so i guess that’s one more positive to add to the list. also i love how the main pair are called out on their young age the entire series.
Anyways i know a new game in this series was released here within the past few months…. and i hope one day to get game LoH3 and 5… which is really game 2 and 3 out here…. damn you chronologically confusing things. so yeah…. possibly more Falcom games to come. (granted from what i’m reading…. LoH1 was released a long time ago so i will probably never find it… and two was never released in north America…. bummer)
wow longer then usual…. guess i had lots to say. overall really did enjoy the game, it’s not terribly long but i feel satisfied and i love being exposed to new rpgs…
ok onto the next thing!
