yes… i only just saw this yesterday…. i knew i didn’t want to see
this in theater if only for the fact that i hate waiting for split
movies.
But honestly… and i said this before the film was even out…. Why is it split in two parts?
Seriously…. yes the book is long… but cut out half the moping about
not finding horcruxes and shorten some segments et voila! shorter movie
Granted i do think it could easily be a 3 hour film all in… but no…
part 1 by itself is 2 and a half hours… holy shit that is really long
for a part of the book that didn’t have a major climax…. yes it does
have a climax but in odd places…. as well as the cliffhanger wasn’t….
cliffhanger-y enough.
so yeah… pacing was extremely off and the payoff wasn’t there…. cause
all the payoff is in the second half of the book. so yeah… i hope the
second part is better but i worry that it’ll be pure action since thast
the main focus of the second half of any book.
But honestly i do understand Why it’s so long… there a lot of things
to get across and a lot of characters to kill… but still it got painful
near the end…. i just wanted it to finish so i could go to bed or do
anything else… granted that animated segment was really nicely done….
best part of the movie….
which when you think about it…. is kinda sad…
Maybe i’m just annoyed at the whole Ginny x Harry which i never
agreed with…. sorry just can’t see it…. so yeah… didn’t hate the first
part but dear god please let part two have better pacing. wont find out
till it’s on the movie network…. which should be in another month or
two…
A place where I will post reviews, personal art and maybe even some videos. please feel free to suggest things to read/watch/play or draw

Completed: The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya
After reading a chapter of this one i had to double check that i was reading these in the correct order.
why? because Kyon starts off saying he has been through so much in the past 6 months including being on a remote island... which i knew was a chapter in the next book.
oh god this series has messed up chronology as well...
to date there are 4 orders for the show, 2 of them canon (well i guess it could be considered 3....)
those orders?
Original TV release order (i call it Kyon order... some call Haruhi oder) this is where in the next episode preview Kyon starts talking about the next episode with will air.... but that's not the next episode chronologically... so Haruhi jumps in and states where that episode actually is in the order.
ex. end of episode 1 Haruhi pops in and says "next time in the menlancholy of haruhi suzumiya episode one!" while Kyon interjects with "wrong.... next one haruhi suzimiya episode two"
the second order is pretty obvious, chronological order (this is the one i call Haruhi order), this is if you did it in the order Haruhi states.
third order is the only one i consider not really canon is the DVD order (i call it Yuki order only cause she does the narration for the DVD next episode preview) and the only difference between it and Haruhi order is that episode 11 is in the episode 11 spot.... not episode 1.
the only episode that all three orders have in the same place is episode 12 "live alive"
that was until season two came around and change things...
see Season twos episodes all take place within the chronological timeline of season 1. making a 4th order that this show can be watched in.... and i have a feeling if they ever do a season 3? one or two chapters may be put in chronologically into season 1/2's time line.
long story short the time line is complicated as all hell.
now why explain that? what does that have to do with sigh?
very little i just wanted to get it off my chest... also my fav order is Kyon order.... and i'm not being biased cause Kyon is my fav character.. it just kinda supports some theories i have about the direction the show could take.... if they ever make more.... but I've rambled long enough and that is a discussion for later in the book reviews.
okay Sigh is about Haruhi and her SOS brigade (the club she made thanks to kyons suggestion) making a film for the culture festival.
it was my fav arc (so far) in the show and is the last arc of season two but happens just before the end of season 1....
why do i love this arc?
a) i've made a few short movies when i was a kid and i kinda got to relive the crazy things that happen as i read... granted i never threw anyone in a pond or had laser beams shoot out of their eyes but it still was a look back for me at my childhood.
b) we get some growth from Kyon, he is still traumatized from the end of Melancholy and has decided to let her get away with damn near murder because he didn't want to end up like he did 6 months ago. Unfortunately that doesn't last long and as Haruhi keeps pushing his buttons he does eventually snap... it's the first time we've seen him act out in any way and yeah he pays the price for it.... you don't nearly punch a girl with godlike/time warp/point of evolution powers and get away Scott free (even if i'm one of the people who thinks Kyon is the one who gave Haruhi those powers to begin with.... no focus i said i wouldn't discuss that now)
c) Ponytail~ it's just so cute and sad....
d) the resolution, makes me laugh every time.
so yeah if you like the show, the book is really good, you get even more snark from Kyon and a bit more insight into the situation he's been thrust in and possibly what being "chosen by Suzumiya" actually means. it also deal with the fact that just cause they are friends on the surface, the aline, time traveler and Esper may have deeper and darker reasons for their actions then we originally thought.
so next is Boredom which takes place between 1&2... i am glad it doesn't contain endless 8.... that's not till vol 5 apparently and i need some time to prepare myself for it.
almost forgot a new pic of kyon....

Part of me knows this wont get anymore seasons…. but the other part of me really wants it to…. i feel like the story is just getting started….
and Rin is just so damn adorable.
The ending was a little odd…. it makes sense but i was expecting…. more i guess? i just want it to keep going.

Completed: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya... again
This time i'm talking about the Light novel.... the thing that started it all.
Now i'll explain i have never liked any of the light novels i have read... they tend to be pretty much pure fluff, inconsequential to the plot or just a retelling in novel form... they also tend to be short.
However in Melancholy's case it came before it's anime/manga counterpart so it's not a retelling of the show but more the basis for one of my favorite shows.
It is in first person, we see/hear/interpret everything that's going on through the eyes of Kyon, The snarky dissatisfied youth who used to be obsessed with all things super natural but upon growing up finally came to terms with the fact that these things can't possibly exist.
we start with his first day of his high school career. everything is normal until the beautiful girl who sits behind Kyon introduces herself.
"i'm Haruhi Suzumiya, if any of you are Aliens, Espers, Time Travelers or sliders come join me... that is all"
to say the least the class is dumbfounded by this and the girl and her oddities become legend.... and for some reason Kyon feels compelled to talk to her... she does sit behind him after all.
after a few failed attempts Kyon finally manages to hold a conversation with her when he observes that she changes her hair every day... wondering if it has to do with the Aliens. This is the catalyst that starts it all. Eventually he gives her the idea to start a club full of odd people and mascots in the hopes of finding said aliens, espers and time travelers.
what she doesn't realize is that she has in fact gathered all three things in one room.... that she is infact some kind of powerful being that can rewrite the world and Kyon is just a normal ordinary human who for the most part is along for the ride because he has been "chosen by Suzumiya"
This series is 11 books long, i own 6 and 7 is coming out in June so i'll be doing a few of these in close succession....
this book is represented as the first six episodes of the show in chronological order and the show does an EXCELLENT job of staying faithful to the book. even some things i noticed as i read were in the show.... when scenery that is seemingly unimportant was being described i could see how they translated it into the show.... but i liked the book more.... probably cause it has more of Kyon's snark.
so yeah The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya is next which i believe covers them making the movie/culture festival.... that probably means it covers endless eight as well but seeing as it's a short book it probably wont be as painful as watching the same episode 8 times.... anyways after disappearance (book 4) these reviews will probably get long since that's as far (from what i can tell) and the anime has come so far.
if you haven't watched the show/read the book/read the manga i would recommend it... it isn't for everyone and can get a little goofy at times but it's so much fun and i just adore it.... plus kyon is just so cute....
yeah i have.... quite a few figures of him.... guess we'll go into that topic another time....

holy crap amazon has FAST service
I own a kindle, i love it, it has allowed me to find a handful of new
authors whom i adore.... yesterday (march 1) crunchyroll posted that Kodokawa
Japan has agreed to start putting things like manga and light novels on
the Kindle... in japan at least.
still if one country does it there is a chance that it'll happen in North America right? so i thought since The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is one of my favorite shows AND it started as a light novel that maybe the light novel was on the kindle....
and it was.... well kinda
Vol 7 was available to preorder.
that's great and all but i kinda wanna read 1-6 before jumping in. So i took a look around....
my options were simple.... order 1-6 hardcover at 50+30 shipping from amazon .com OR pay 50 with free shipping paperback from amazon . ca
i went with the cheaper option cause... well i'm cheap...
i did this around 8 last night (still march 1st)
about 12 today.... it arrives..... i didn't order speedy shipping... i am really impressed and very very very happy...
so now i have 8 books to read (1 by aaron pogue, the 6 haruhi books and the count of monte cristo cause i like long books.)
alright.... i should finish homework now.... reading week is almost over

Ugh…. i don’t want to do this…. but….
I didn’t like it…. at all…. not even a little… i know it’s blasphemy to say something that the GODFATHER of manga created wasn’t good…..
but this really…. wasn’t to my personal taste….
mainly cause of the ending…. it was just a slap in the face…. the character grows and STILL is punished for his actions… i’m sorry but the entire time were meant to believe that he’s living these other lives…. but he’s not… he’s either unconscious or under hypnosis… the main line never really dies… and then yeah…..
Also Oh my God is it preachy. “humans polluted the earth to the point they killed themselves!” or “don’t kill the animals… we can live in harmony…. except fish…. screw the fish!” i just felt like i was being lectured the entire two volumes….
oh well… i know tezuka’s got some amazing stuff…. i love his version of metropolis (again in hindsight…. fairly preachy) But this….. this was just upsetting for how much i didn’t like it…. oh well.. had to read it for class….

This is book two in the Hunger Games Series.
It was good, the pacing felt a bit odd mostly because 3/4 of book 1 is centered around a certain situation while only 1/4 of book two focuses on that same situation.
Again it has many similarities with Battle Royal, more so then even the first one. However it works and i’m glad they are taking it in this direction.
at the end of book 3 i may do a spoiler filled review just cause it’s hard to recommend this book when i can’t mention anything cause it’s all spoilers.
but if you like stories of fighting the odds give this series a read.
